“Czapinski constructs wooden frames enclosed by sheer fabric, creating semi-transparent, two-sided screens. Varicolored thread is woven between the two fabric panels, effectively creating three-dimensional drawings of polygons that appear to float in space. Through backlighting the structured string and sheer fabric, the negative space within the frames becomes palpable. The work—an exploration of sculpture, painting, and drawing—investigates perception.”

Glass expands quite literally holding the space of a captured breath of air. Through the process of glass blowing the structure of an exhale materializes. Puff your cheeks out. Breathe in, breathe out. What shapes do our organs take as we inhale, as we exhale? This project captures that space offering a moment to reflect with a breath of air.

These glass pieces were made in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Glass Center with assistance from Jason Forck and Billy Guilford as part of Idea Furnace. Idea Furnace is a program hosted by the PGC where artists who are not familiar with glass blowing techniques are invited to create work.
